3 QUICK NEWS BITS ⏲️
Orlando's Roads Are Winning the Wrong Race
Every Orlando driver knows the drill: dodge the pothole, feel the shimmy, watch the steering wheel drift, and then try to remember when you last got your alignment checked.
Turns out, everyone else is doing it too. A Pep Boys analysis of 35 U.S. metro markets crowned Orlando number one, the city where drivers rack up more road-related repairs than anywhere else in the country.
The culprits? Asphalt-melting heat, torrential seasonal downpours, and the eternal construction circus on Interstate 4. Repair bills range from $150 for a single tire to $1,500 for suspension work.
The good news? The city has allocated $7.5 million for roadway rehabilitation this year, so smoother days may be ahead. Until then, maybe schedule that checkup.

Orlando Ballet Is Packing Houses and Winning Grants
Orlando Ballet is on a roll, and Orange County is officially a fan.
The company landed a spot among 39 recipients of the county's Cultural Tourism grant, a program that's come a long way since 2002, when four organizations split $471,582. This year? A record $5.1 million.
The box office is keeping pace, too. Last season drew 42,000 patrons, and this season blew past that number before the halfway mark.
Founded in 1974, Orlando Ballet runs a $12 million operation, serves 600 local families through its school, and sends arts residencies into 48 public schools annually.
Every year, 15,000 second graders see The Nutcracker live, many for the very first time.
REMINDER: Become a Local Wanderer
Consider this your semi-annual reminder that a library card is wildly underrated.
Through the Orange County Library System's award-winning Local Wanderer program, your card unlocks free admission to some of Central Florida's best cultural spots, no fees, no fine print.
A few notable participating partners to check out in the program:
- Mennello Museum of American Art, rotating exhibits celebrating American art on the shore of Lake Formosa
- Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens, the stunning Winter Park estate of internationally acclaimed Czech sculptor Albin Polasek
- Winter Park History Museum, local history made surprisingly personal
- Orange County Regional History Center, 14,000+ years of Central Florida history inside a 1927 courthouse
There are plenty more partners on the full list, and since passes have limited availability, it's worth checking sooner rather than later.
