3 QUICK NEWS BITS ⏲️
Dive In: Orlando Is Keeping Its Cool Pools Free All Summer

When the heat index pushes past bearable, Orlando has a straightforward answer for its residents: show up, show your ID, and jump in.

The City of Orlando is offering free open swim at its public pools for the entire summer, no membership required, no hidden fees. All it takes is a valid ID or proof of address to get through the gate. For visitors or out-of-town guests who want a break from the theme park circuit, the door is open too, for just 4 bucks!

It's a simple program with a practical payoff.

As temperatures climb across Central Florida, access to a cool pool can make a real difference for families who don't have a backyard option or can't afford a resort day pass.

Don't Sweat It. Help Is on the Way for Seniors

As mentioned above, Florida summers are no joke, especially if you're older and watching every dollar, and can’t make it to a local cool pool! 👆

Good news: Senior Resource Alliance, serving Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties since 1985, is handing out up to $2,000 per household in utility assistance through the federally funded Emergency Home Assistance for the Elderly Program (EHEAP).

We're talking help prepaying future energy bills, purchasing blankets and cooling fans, connection deposits, late fees, disconnect and reconnect charges, old balances on closed accounts, landlord payments when utilities are bundled into rent, and even temporary emergency shelter if things get really dicey.

Any household with at least one resident age 60 or older may qualify.

These Orlando Teens Just Earned Their Lifesaving Stripes

Fifty Orlando teens just leveled up from high schoolers to honorary lifesavers. Earlier this week, the Orlando Fire Teen Academy sent 14- to 17-year-olds through a free CPR certification course, courtesy of the city's Take Heart Orlando program, learning chest compressions, rescue breaths, and AED use on adults and infants alike.

A two year certification of bona fide, life-saving cred, earned in just a few hours.

But why stop there? The teens also tackled Community Emergency Response Team training, picking up search-and-rescue moves, first aid, and Stop the Bleed skills, then put it all to the test in a mock disaster drill.

Worth knowing: survival odds drop 10 percent every minute without CPR, and help can take four to six minutes to arrive.

These kids just became the difference-makers in between.
