3 QUICK NEWS BITS ⏲️
The Coolest Kids on Campus Are 60+
Forget the rocking chair. Some Florida seniors are hitting the books instead.
Florida's Senior Citizen Auditors program lets residents 60 and older sit in on university courses completely tuition-free.
At the University of Central Florida alone, 85 seniors are auditing classes this fall, showing up not for grades or diplomas, but simply because learning feels good.
The science backs them up. A 2025 study found seniors who pursued education scored higher on cognitive function tests and carried roughly a 19% lower risk of developing dementia.
Turns out, the best thing retirement has going for it might just be homework.

Fine and Dandy
Eatonville has been waiting on a data center for so long, the town has found a creative way to cope, fining the developer $250 a day.
HostDime's $100 million, 100,000-square-foot AI-ready facility has blown through deadline after deadline, racking up more than $99,000 in fines since missing its July 2025 target.
The fines aren't just about being late to open; HostDime must also clear a checklist of site commitments covering noise, water compliance, and utility standards before the town hands over a certificate of occupancy.
The Town Council recently floated doubling the penalty to $500 daily but pumped the brakes, opting to sit down with the developer before turning up the heat. Mayor Ruthi Critton is keeping the faith, hoping the town gets both its economic payoff and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tentatively this month. Finally.

One Family. Five Decades.
Good news for anyone who has been quietly obsessing over mid-century modern architectur. Harry Merritt Jr.'s crown jewel just landed on the market for the very first time, asking $675,000.
The Hodgin Residence has called Oviedo's Mead Manor waterfront home since 1976, when Dr. and Mrs. John Hodgin first turned the key, and no one else ever has.
Merritt, who sharpened his skills under legends Walter Gropius and Paul Rudolph at Harvard, called this one his finest work. The Florida Division of Historical Resources agrees, evaluating it as potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
Take one look at the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, locally sourced cypress cabinetry, Ocala block construction, and enclosed courtyard overlooking a gloriously untouched old-Florida landscape. Living here has been described as life in a treehouse, and you will not argue with any of them.
Nearly 50 years. One family. Zero prior listings. Some opportunities only knock once.
