3 QUICK NEWS BITS ⏲️
The Need for Speed Is Costing Florida Drivers More Than Just a Fine
Florida's "Super Speeder" law just hit its one-year anniversary, and the birthday cake is lit with some truly wild candles.
Over the last 12 months, troopers have made more than 4,000 arrests statewide, 500-plus in Orange County alone, for hitting 100 mph or blowing past any speed limit by 50 mph. One county sheriff's office added another 323 arrests to the pile, with the fastest recorded speed clocking in at a jaw-dropping 150 mph.
First-time speeders are reportedly landing harder punishments than first-time DUI offenders.
As for whether the law is actually making Florida's roads safer? The jury's still out, hopefully moving at a reasonable speed.

Orange County Head Start Just Got Four New Homes
When four Orange County public schools shuttered in 2026, hundreds of families braced for the worst. Officials had other plans.
Armed with a community needs assessment, Orange County Community and Family Services teamed up with Orange County Public Schools to score Head Start classrooms at four shiny new campuses: Conway, Lake George, William Frangus, and Maxey Elementary Schools, just in time for the 2026-2027 school year.
The best part? It's not just a straight swap. The new locations add capacity in areas with historically long waitlists, keeping services planted firmly in the communities that need them most.
The Show Must Go On, And Now It Has a Bigger Stage
It took two decades, a temporary exile, and $8 million in public funding, but Winter Park Playhouse has finally stopped sweating its lease and started living its best life.
Last week, the beloved nonprofit re-opened the doors of its freshly spruced-up space on Orange Avenue, with Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and Winter Park Mayor Sheila DeCiccio on hand for the ribbon-cutting.
The theater scored a shiny new lobby, a dedicated cabaret space, long-overdue accessibility upgrades, a larger stage, and grew from 123 to 172 seats.
For the self-proclaimed "Cheers of Winter Park," the best plot twist was simply getting to stay.
